hpia4v2, thanks for sharing on their history :) I owned a 1996 MB E320 (W220), the first year they came out with oval headlamps. It was a nice car, but I traded it in for a 2004 Lexus RX330 AWD because I lost control of my E320 in the 2002 snowstorm, and I got stuck in a snow pile and could not get out. is the best bet of predicting the future. BMW has about 7 years of life cycle on 5-series model. The new E60 body style was introduced in late 2003 as 2004 MY(model year). So, I think the next body style will come out as 2011 MY in mid or early of 2010. In any business, sales dictate decision and nothing else. I'm not sure how an A6 is too big or dimensionally how a G from Infiniti would be a competitor (the G is aimed at the A4 and 3 Series in other NON-dimensional attributes.) A6 wb: 111.9 and is about 192" overall 5x wb: 113.7 and is about 191" overall I have driven both of these cars extensively and actually own the A6. somehow to me, the 5 does seem to have a cramped back seat ... The 530 will give you plenty of bang for the buck over the OUT OF WARRANTY 545. The 3.0 I6 is very smooth and has plenty of torque. These cars are very particular when it comes to maintenance and you will save a fortune and have a lot more peace of mind driving a car with some warranty left. I am in the market for a used (but not too used) 530 or 545. Like everyone else, I'm looking for the most bang for the buck, but I am also thinking ahead to re-sale value (I have a bad habit of not keeping cars more than 3 years). As others have said, the maintenance and repairs for the cars you have listed could make a 10 year hold an expensive proposition. That said, I'd consider an Acura RL over the Audi A6. I own a 2004 TL 6-speed and it's quicker and more fun to drive than the RL, but not as luxurious. The RL has been a very tough sell for Acura, so good deals should be available. I enjoy driving ...
