2003 BMW 5 Series 530i 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Review

Bought the 03 automatic model with all possible options including sport package, M aero kit and suspension for US$40000, what a steal. The 530i totally exceeds my expectation even on BMW high standard. It accelerates with sweet smoothness, handles with sharp precision with the just right sporty and European taste.Drove the 04 model, all I can say is get the 03 while you still can.

Favorite Features

strong torque, smooth tranny and the sporty feel with the just right level of luxury.

Suggested Improvements

Status quo will do. Keep building the "ultimate driving machine", not "ultimate computer on wheels"

Got my 530i with M Executive Package (premium package + sports package + M trimming, ie, loaded)for a year end dirt cheap price. This car exceeds everything I expected from even the high standard of BMW. It accelerates with such sweet smoothness, handles with such precision and the interior has just the right European and sporty taste. . Also did a very long test drive on the 2004 530i. If you are a real bimmer lover, go out there and grab your 2003 model before they're all gone.

Favorite Features

Engine, handling, strong torque, auto sunblind, the just right feel.

Suggested Improvements

keep making them the way BMW been doing, don't change things for the sake of changing. This is the "Ultimate Driving Machine",not the "Ultimate Computer on Wheels".

It is a fantastic car to drive.

Favorite Features

The interior layout of the car without the navigational system- very classic.

Suggested Improvements

Standard side airbags for the back seats and adjusting xeon lights. Also, they should the current model because the new one is not quite as nice.

This is the second 5 series I've purchased in 5 years. I really think the technology in the 2003 has hit the mark.

Favorite Features

The steptronic tranmission is definitely my favorite feature.

Suggested Improvements

A more sturdier cup holder. Smile :)

Review

I love the handling, fit and finish, and yes even the power of the vehicle, even though it's missing a little bit of horse power. The car however, is a dream to drive. I compared it to others in it class including Lexus, Acura and Saab and nothing drives or feels like the ultimate driving machine!

Favorite Features

The creamy smooth trans, purring engine, my 7 CD changer (installed for cost), and the overall exterior and interior.

Suggested Improvements

For a car of this price, the minimum HP should be between 200-220 HP. And as many owners have suggested; better and more cupholders.

Review

I have never owned a German Car before. I am amazed of the performance of this car. It is solid and feels very heavy and safe on the road. I currently have a lexus as a second vehicle and this BMW totally out performs it. I recommend it to everyone. I will be looking to get another BMW when The Lexus lease is up. Can't wait.

Favorite Features

Great stereo system. Car performs better and better as you reach higher speeds. Amazing ride.

Suggested Improvements

Needs to improve the cup holders. They are very cheap and is located infront of control panel. When it is used it blocks the access to it. Trunk space is quite small. Needs better radio reception. Can improve the center armrest and another compartment for things.

Review

This car makes me smile every time I slip into it and take it for a ride! It is smooth, extremely well-built, lovely to look at and is recommended highly.

Favorite Features

I like how the side mirrors lower when reversing, the exceptional ride, tight steering, clean lines and the engineering. Like it better than a Mercedes or Lexus.

Suggested Improvements

Better cup holders. Other than this, I cannot think of anything else to cite.

Review

I purchased this car new in January 2003 and have been grinning ever since. The ride is a great combination of luxury and performance -- meaning you ride in comfort but you still feel connected to the road. And when you hit the gas, you know you've got power under the hood ready to meet your needs. I also had to take a quick evasive manuever once when another car turned in front of mine, and I quickly discovered that this car handles like a champ!

Favorite Features

Performance, smooth/comfortable ride, safety, style, controls (many more than I'll ever use!)

Suggested Improvements

"Real" cupholders, more console storage, and nicer looking wheels on the nonsport model.

Review

However, Like the commercials say, I do find excuses to drive. I would buy this car again. Unfortunately there are a few negatives. The cup holders are small and awkwardly placed. When using them it is almost impossible to access the climate control system. I did not purchase the navigation system because I didn't want to give up the on board CD player. My 530 is a manual shift and came with the sport package. I find the gear ratio rather difficult to handle in stop and go traffic. The car wants to get up and run. BMW has engineered a marvelous automobile that will continue to be a pleasure to drive for many years to come.

Favorite Features

Auto wipers and Head lamps Safety features like multiple air bags

Suggested Improvements

cup holder size and placement integration of navigation system without comprimising the onboard CD system.
