2003 BMW 5 Series 540i 4dr Sedan (4.4L 8cyl 5A)
Review
By far the best driving car I have ever owned. I test drove both an E- 500 and the 540 and the two can't compare from a performance standpoint. The Merc is more luxurious but the BMW has the best driving experience hands down.
Favorite Features
Sport package a must, but get the comfort seats.

2003 BMW 5 Series 530i 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5M)
Review
Was able to get in on the factory incentives at the last minute and find the model I wanted. This car is esentially eveything I wanted in a sprots sedan.
Favorite Features
Build quality, handling, styling. High end RPM's make crusing the highways a pleasure.
Suggested Improvements
Better stereo system, more interior storage space, more low end torque, another 30-35 horsepower.

2003 BMW 5 Series 530i 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5M)
Review
This is the third 5 Series I've owned, and they keep on getting better. The extra low end torque compared to the previous 528 version is noticable. It still handles like no other mid-size sedan, and I've test driven all of them. If you enjoy precise road feel, steering, braking and cornering, this is the car to own.
Favorite Features
Drivability.
Suggested Improvements
A CD changer should be standard in this price class. Cars costing $20,000- $25,000 less have them. Also, it would be nice if the instructions in the owner's manual, especially for the audio system and the onboard computer, actually corresponded to the controls in the car.

Excellent Car, buy it, but negotiate

2003 BMW 5 Series 530i 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5M)
Review
This car has all the performance: steering, handling, braking, acceleration that I expect from a BMW. It's my second BMW, but this is the first 5. I'm a stick shift driver so I'm surprised that I like driving an automatic. The 530i has enough power to overcome the automatic.
Favorite Features
The smooth powerful acceleration for merging onto the Washington, DC Beltway. The precise steering and tight handling are why I bought a BMW.
Suggested Improvements
The cupholders are useless and there should be more usable storage inside the car. Also, some dash controls, radio, releasing the trunk, etc. should be more intuitive.

This car is a joy to drive - excellent handling and driving environment. The solid build quality gives you a feeling of safety as well. Perfect mix of fun to drive and comfort.
Favorite Features
Sound of the engine and the precise handling.

Would be nice if steering wheel radio controls would allow you to switch between radio modes and the CD player.
The best car I ever have

This is the first German car I own. I totally like its performance and handling. Unlike any Japanese and American cars I had before, the BMW 5 is so fun to drive. It feels solid, comfortable, and excellent build quality. It is worth the money I paid.

Handling, performance

2003 BMW 5 Series 540i 4dr Sedan (4.4L 8cyl 5A)
Review
This car is outstanding! You simply have to drive this car to get a better understanding of just how phenominal this car really is. You get it all-- performance, luxury, comfort, style, just for starters. You will not be amiss in owning a 540i.
Favorite Features
Navigation system and on-board computer. "Angel-eyes" headlights. Sporty yet refined styling.
Suggested Improvements
Operations manuals on navigation and other car features should be better written and/or more thorough. Perhaps a DVD on usage and functionality would be best.

This isn't your mothers wagon!

2003 BMW 5 Series 540i 4dr Sport Wagon (4.4L 8cyl 5A)
Review
While it is true the sport suspension gives you precise feedback, I find the handling and roadfeel to be one of the best characteristics of the car. For those who are looking for a true perfomance car with the practicality of a wagon look no further. Put four snow tires on the car and winter is no issue. For those seeking to drive your living room this is not the car for you. The BMW 540ia wagon sets the standard for fit and finish among it's rivals, and passes them in so other many characteristics and qualities. This is a car I can drive for 8 hours continually arriving without an ache.
Favorite Features
Handling Interior fit and finish interior ergonomics quite cabin at any speed utility
Suggested Improvements
Perhaps for the public at large better cup holders. But for me the importance of maintaining %100 concentration while driving the cup holders are irrelavent. Remember two hands on the whell at all times!
