Re: vokey1 [vokey1]
When I got my first BMW that called for extended OCIs, the BMW oil standard of the day was LongLife-1998 (i.e. LL-98), and BMW required a change every 12 months regardless of how low the mileage was since the last change. When the BMW LL-01 oil specification debuted (oddly enough in 2001), BMW eliminated the annual oil change requirement. As for your dealer not ... Read More...

Re: 1998 528i overheating [fbfan02]
Thanks for the prompt response. Will give it a try. Thanks for the prompt response. Will give it a try. Yes, bleeding is a critical procedure on most every BMW cooling system. Make sure that the heater is on and set to maximum heat. There are two bleeder screws, one on the thermostat housing and one on the radiator. It won't hurt to raise the front of the car either. Re: 535i ED Quote - Dallas [tx_bmw]
I've been following the BMW related discussions here on Edmunds since I started researching my 1999 328i back in the summer of 1998. Through that entire time one thing has remained true, the Dallas area dealers will not negotiate an ED deal below MSRP (and very little off of MSRP for domestically sourced cars). The common consensus is to either allow them to screw ... Read More...
It's funny shipo
for 7 years and over 135,000 miles my Mom drove a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300E with RWD (no traction or stability control) and snow tires (during the winter). During the '90's we had some pretty nasty winters here in the suburbs of NYC (part of which fueled the SUV craze). My parents sold the 300E and leased one of the first 1998 CLK 320s (RWD) for four years. The winters ... Read More...

Re: 2001 BWM 530 warranty question [edbarry12]
Many folks, myself included, would advise that you simply "self insure" by taking the money that you would otherwise spend on the warranty and set it aside for unscheduled repairs. While you may not make out on any one car, the betting is that over years that you are a car owner, you'll come out well ahead in the end. FWIW, the last car that I bought the "extended warranty" ... Re: 1998 528i [fenster]
The '98 you're looking at has just a few more miles than my 2000 528iA which is close to 104,000 miles. I've made the "deposits" and been rewarded with a car that is quite dependable and rarely out of service except for routine maintainence. I expect to enjoy The Blue Max for many more miles. You should consider a preemptive replacement of the original radiator and ... Read More...
1998 BMW 528I
We're looking at purchasing a '98 528I with about 58K miles on it from the original owner. It's in almost excellent condition other than a major scuff on the lower fender. Always serviced at the dealer, no accidents, etc. with a clean carfax record. We're also looking at a '98 Volvo S90 also low mileage, 50K miles, excellent conditon. Does anyone know of any major ... Re: Maintenance & repairs [tlouie]
As a general statement, no, you don't need to maintain your car more often than is recommended by the Owner's Manual. Your specific question regarding oil changes is fairly easily addressed, consider the following: - Most six cylinder engines in the three liter range from most manufacturers have an oil capacity of between four and five quarts. Your new car uses ... Read More...
sdg380 and e500
All of the e500's have the suspension that has the three settings. There is luxury, mid, and sport. The sport is sporty but is not harsh like my 3sport and the luxury setting is very smooth but controlled. It has air shocks which allow the adjustments. The air shocks while smooth in all settings seem a little isolated. I think I might prefer the spring shocks for feel.Yes, ... Read More...
