BMW 5-Series Sedans

I am thinking of a very similar purchase with slightly higher miles than you got, but also a slightly lower price. What did you look for when you were purchasing the car? I have found that these cars are normally in great condition since the people who own them normally take care of them. But I want to know, how does it drive, what is warn on it that might need replacing ... Read More...

New 1998 528 Owner Needs Advice

Hello All! I have been reading your group for a awhile but this is a first time post. I just purchased a 45,000 mile 1998 528i auto with SP. Its a great car. I have owned a few BMW's in the past but nothing in the past 10 years. I just paid 20,000 for the car and was wondering if I did well or not. the car is perfect. maintained by the dealer and I bought it from the original owner ... Read More...

Hmmm, I don't ever recall saying "I am not crazy to be the first one to drive the new BMW in the block". That said, I was one of the first on my block to drive the (then) new E46 328i, and other than a couple of $1.00 taillight bulbs, the car never had a single bit of problem. Of course, one can contrast my experience with my 12/1998 build E46 with the early 1996 E39 (5-Series) ... Read More...

love2skicar... According to the 86-page full color 2002 BMW 5 Series brochure, Under "Interior seating and trim" section of the "Standard Equipment/Optional Equipment" charts it shows the following optional for all 5 Series: "Split-folding lockable rear seats (includes ski bag; requires leather upholstery)" And under "Comfort and convenience" it shows ... The only differences that I am aware of are as follows: 1) I do not believe that the 1997 was available with the Sport Package. 2) Starting in 1999, the 2.8 liter engine was upgraded with "Double VANOS" (dynamic valve timing), which bumped the power a little and offered better gas mileage. Synthetic oil: I know that from (at least) 1999, BMW requires the use of a full ... Read More...

BMW Owners Meet the Members

Hope to buy through Euro Del soon!

Hello! I was the proud owner of a 1988 325 convertible for several years, sold it back to its orginial owner (my sister) in 1998. Have been a disappointed SAAB owner since. Now planning to purchase a 325 through the Euro Delivery program. I'm planning at least... still working on the husband... I'd love to hear anyone's advice on the Euro Del program. I'm done tons ... 525i Power

reorge56... snagiel is absolutely correct. You must take a sufficiently long and thorough test drive to see if the car is right for you and your wife. Drive it on the roads you drive at the times you drive in the type traffic you drive. With at least the weight you normally have in it. If you pass a lot on 2-lane roads, make sure to see how the car does that. Or merging onto ... Read More...

My understanding (from reading many sources) was that the first year E39 5-Series had more than its fair share of problems, which were apparently worked out by 1999 (if not 1998). On the other hand, my first year E46 328i has been such a model of reliability that it would be the envy of any Japanese company, I guess that BMW learned their lesson on the E39, unfortunately, ... ED Comparison & Timing of Purchase

shipo... The timing of your respective purchases is fascinating. If I'm understanding your stories... 1. You bought the then all brand new E46 3 Series platform upon introduction. Didn't it come out in CY 1998 as a MY 1999? And you were buying the hotter 328i? This is the time dealers will be attempting to get the most money for the car, as they are dealing with the ... ED, yet again...

In 1998, I negotiated a non-ED deal for my current 1999 328i, the MSRP was $38,720 and the negotiated price was $36,777.66. I leased the car with a "Zero Down" lease (meaning paying security, first month and origination fee, totaling about $1,400), which worked out to $510 per month for 39 months. During the process, I visited the dealership three times, the first ... Read More...
