Re: 2012 Mercedes E350 [james27]
Written by: lawcar on Jan 16, 2012 9:04:16 AM
I meant in general that the BMW is not as "luxury" feeling as the others. For example, it is not rough but does not ride quite as smooth (that's the nature of the BMW suspension), doesn't have as many features as "standard" or as part of a single package, navigation system is more cumbersome than on the Lexus touch screen, cupholders not as user friendly, interior not as finely finished. Again, ... Read More

Thanks, Yes I did drive the new 4-cylinder 528i. I liked the handling of it (more responsive than the E350) and didn't notice much of a difference with the 4-cylinder turbocharged engine compared to my 6-cylinder 2009 528i. But there were a few things I didn't care for: the keyless ignition (I like to turn the key, and all of the BMW's have the keyless ignition); the start/stop (the car vibrated ... Read More

2012 Mercedes E350
Written by: lawcar on Jan 13, 2012 8:20:57 AM
Well, it was almost anti-climactic after the several weeks of research, test drives, posting and reading on this website. I have been driving my black exterior/almond interior 2012 E350 which I picked up last week and really like it. While the black exterior does get dirty sooner than my medium gray BMW 528i, this color combination is very rich and elegant, yet sporty at the same time. Even though the car ... Read More

Hi! I just bought a 2010 528xi with premium package and value package for a little bit under what you see at CarsDirect.com. According to Yahoo Autos, there are still quite a few 2010 528xi (92 as of today) to be sold in Metro Detroit area. The price could come down even further. But, I pulled the trigger anyway. 1. Factoring into the deal the value of getting out from under the last three lease payments, and even at "only" a $5K discount from new (money is money), the miles and slightly more age on the CPO leaves a very good deal IMHO. It's a BMW. :)

Re: High Pressure Pump [whitehot5]

Just received a letter today from BMW corporate acknowledging problems with high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) problems on 2008/2009 535i models, and as such is extending the warranty on the HPFP from the normal 4 years/50,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first. I'm saving that letter for any unfortunate future reference. My HPFP went at 17,000 miles on my 2009 535i x-drive. Dealer knew immediately the cause, though did ... Read More

The delay and jump symptom sounds like an acceleration lag off the line. Lurching could be a fuel injector misfiring. With the misfiring, I was experiencing very rough idling and above 50 mph the car almost felt like it was bucking, which was the misfiring. The long cranking is a symptom of the HPFP. I would take your car into a BMW dealer for evaluation of the software (acceleration lag - ... Read More

Have you had a lawyer send a written notification to BMW NA? Depends what state you live in, but after so many attempts to fix an issue, the lemon law applies. Also if the car is out of service more than 30 days. I think you have 1 yr/12K miles for these events to occur. My dealer has stated that there are issues with the HPFP on the twin turbos - ... The 2009/10 E60 with N54 is an amazing vehicle - when it runs. In the past 5 years, I've purchased a 645, 750, and two 5s, all brand new. Never a single issue with any, until the '09 535i (N54B30). What a nightmare, and BMW NA refuses to even help. In 8 months (since I took delivery), the fuel pump failed (HPFP), water pump failed, fuel control system failed, each time ... Read More

Leasing a used car seldom makes sense. With you mleage requirements you should go with a new car 3 year lease just to stay within new car warranty. Good deal for a 2010 550 with similar options and $72K MSRP (no-charge value pack) should be around $900, maybe a little higher.

What do I think? I think BMW isn't going to buy back a $50K car for a battery "glitch". There had to be something seriously wrong with that car. I also wonder if the title has been "branded" as a manufacturer buyback. If it has, then the warranty may not be in effect. Sometimes they will do a program called "Trade Assist", because they don't have to brand the title. That ... Read More

I have been looking for a new 2009 bmw 535i for a while but can not pull the trigger. Now that BMW offered $5000 dealer cash, it's time to make the move. Has anyone on this board bough a 5 series recently after the dealer cash was out? What's the deal looks like? I checked the inventory, seems like not much 2009 left, though. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
