    Update - completed repairs a couple weeks ago. Like you, I had to "invest" about $2,000 in parts, speciality tools, etc. Based on BMW dealer estimate, this was about half the cost of dealer repair.     The aluminum bolts are stretch bolts. They are torqued to a specific amount and turned an additional 90 to 180 degrees to properly torque/stretch the bolts. The N52 aluminum head boats required another 90 degrees after the torque values. (BMW repair recommendation) I did not stretch my bolts and I think they were 15 or 10 nms???     On an E60 some services are determined by time, some by mileage, and some by the Condition Based Service system(which calculates service based on driving conditions).     Good dealers run good CPO programs. My dealer(Swope BMW, Louisville, KY) does a great job. As I noted above, go to BMW USA and perform a CPO search. The cars themselves have proven to be very reliable and a 40K-50K car shouldn't need more than brakes-if that-and scheduled maintenance for a long time to come.

    Yatze, I just checked my local dealer here in Fairfield County, CT., they have a 2006 530XIT wagon, with 44,138 miles (!!) and asking $34,900 for the vehicle, CPO. I would say, I have no experience at all like Jayrider, but to me, that $29,000 seems like a deal for a car with only 20K miles? Wow that sounds even cheap to me.

    add the 09 maxima sv with premium package to your list and check it out. It's a boutique with stones on wheels. Great deals too. there are 10 certified 5 series 06 on ebay from 30-35k. 20-45k miles. the maxima sv lists out at 37 but you can get them here for 1-2k under invoice or 32-33. They also have a sport package with firmer handling.
