The pleasure of owning a BMW530i (2003)

Handles as you would dream about. Fuel milage has been 39mpg crusing on Freeways. So many amenities that I am still refering to the owners manuel to use them to the fullest. The ride is excellent as is the response when needed. I'm a BMW530i fan for life. Unless BMW brings out something better in the future.

I got more than what I had bargained for-the power and torq with the steptronic is just amazing, has nimble handling and a true sport feel. Interior/exterior workmanship/design is excellent, although the cup holders and stereo could use redesigning. Love the navigation; I'm surprised at how accurate it is. All in all - I would highly recommend this car for family (excellent safety features) or fun/leisure. I would also highly recommend Ulysses at East Bay BMW in Pleasanton, CA. They were all just Excellent! p.s:use the speed limit sensor (included with the onboard computer) you never know when you'll hit 100!! :-)

The Ultimate Driving Machine

Loved my 2000 Mercedes C230 Kompressor (recently turned in at lease end). However, this BMW puts it to shame. Comments ranged from "yeah, they're nice but so overpriced (actually well priced!)" to "you're stepping down to a BMW?". After the first month, I'm still high (no, it's not just the new car scent!). Solid and yet extremely comfortable ride, reeeeeeealy quiet, excellent braking, awesome sound system (steering wheel controls big +), leather seats like living room furniture, controls logical & easy to use, xlnt a/c system, rain sensing windshield wipers much more of a plus than anticipated. By far the best of all 10 of my previous vehicles!

"Ultimate Driving Machine" is more than a marketing tagline, it's the true philosophy behind this car. That it manages to be so comfortable and refined as well is not only a great benefit, but it practically boggles the mind how they were able to accomplish both these seemingly polar characteristics. The car is always composed, even when making maneuvers that would outwit some sports cars, let alone luxury sedans. The interior is quiet and refined, yet revving the engine is sweet music. The precision and linearity of the brakes, throttle, and steering are simply amazing.

Excellent, but not perfect

This is my first BMW, and it's reputation is well founded. It is a blast to drive, both in town and especially on long trips. Shouldn't a $45,000 car have an in dash CD changer? The interior is beautiful, but not very functional. There is no storage in the console, the cupholders are a joke. The climate controls are illogical, but work well. The gas pedal is too vertical-only my toes touch the pedal. Why can the US and Japanese make brakes that don't dust, and the Europeans can't?

The tires that come with the sport package are the worst I have ever seen. Contintial Sport contacts replaced at 7500 miles. In addition from day one there has been a vibration in the steering. 5 rotations 2 alignments later it is still there. Dealer says it is a known problem on sport models.....

A Great Transition

I traded in a Porsche Carrera for my 2003 540iA three weeks ago and it has been a joy! I had owned a BMW 3 and less muscular 5 series in the '80s and was amazed at the brand's tremendous qualitative evolution over the past 13 years. The 540iA is simply the best car I've ever owned - bar none. With its world-class performance, safety features and elegant design, I would ethusiastically recommend this outstanding car to anyone who appreciates combining true value with a great motoring experience.
