In fact I feel sorry for those who get roped into the "BMW experience". Yes, I've been "roped in" for 28 years. Pity me... Frankly, I have driven them and I just cannot justify paying the premium just to drive a status symbol. Since the 50,000 mile mark the repair and maintenance costs(including 1 set of four tires) have amounted to $3998- a bit less than six cents per mile, or $83 per month. The battery in my 1995 318ti lasted over 10 years and 100,000 miles. It was still working fine but I decided to replace it as a precaution.

While you may not make out on any one car, the betting is that over years that you are a car owner, you'll come out well ahead in the end. I was at the dealer various times in the 2 years after the 745i intro, and they always had a huge demand for pre-owned 2001's for the styling on the newer 745i's was in total, not a favorite.
