Re: Tire Rotation [jaxs1]
I didn't rotate the tires on my first BMW (a 1999 328i), and while I had no noise or other unusual wear patterns on my tires, I will say that the rears did wear a bit faster than the fronts. When I traded it in on my 530i SP, the tires on the 328i had almost bang on 49,000 miles on them (yes, this was a non-SP car with all-season tires), I'm quite certain that the rears could ... Winter Tires, again... (Reposted from the 5-Series board)
Hey Gang! This (long) post is sort of a catch-up post, prompted in no small part by our 5-Series friend and compatriot DaBimmer, who just sent me an E-Mail suggesting (very tactfully I might add) that I get off my butt and rejoin the discussions here in the TownHall. Thanks Tony for the kick in the hind quarters. ;-) For starters, I am NOT currently driving a BMW, I ... Read More...

Re: Summer Tire Size for 330 coupe [ronaries10]
Tire Rack is a great place to start. If you want to find 16" wheels for the E46, just plug in a 1999 323i - 16's were standard for it. Tire Rack will also tell you the bolt pattern and offset needed for your car. As long as the bolt pattern (5-120) and offset (42mm) match, then the wheels will work. Wheels - 16" Kosei K1Racing (affordable and lightweight) http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initial- ... Read More...
Re: 535i ED Quote - Dallas [tx_bmw]
I've been following the BMW related discussions here on Edmunds since I started researching my 1999 328i back in the summer of 1998. Through that entire time one thing has remained true, the Dallas area dealers will not negotiate an ED deal below MSRP (and very little off of MSRP for domestically sourced cars). The common consensus is to either allow them to screw ... Read More...
Re: BMW 2004 328 4DR Seden Maintainese Cost [windforceus]
I want to know BMW 2004 328 4DR Sedan, 60000 miles Maintainese Cost If i bring the car to BMW dealer or Private body shop. First off, if you haven't purchased the car yet, I would strongly advise you to have it inspected by a qualified BMW tech. Not much goes wrong on the newer 3 Series, but you still want to buy a good one. Now for your questions regarding costs. In most ... Read More...
Re: The gas gauge drops to 0 suddenly, but I really have gas! [absolutic]
What could be the problem? The E36(1992-1999) 3 Series cars had a similar issue. In that case the problem was caused by corrosion deposits on the fuel sending unit contacts within the gas tank. BMW cured the problem by introducing a replacement unit fitted with gold contacts that do not corrode. I solved the problem on my 1995 and 1998 3ers by using only Top Tier ... Read More...
Re: 325i tires [thomatl]
You could always buy a compact spare and keep it in the trunk. The tire you're looking for is going to be either a "premium passenger tire" (ultimate comfort) or a "all-season high performance tire" (good mix of comfort and sport). On the comfort side, I can personally recommend the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred as a very smooth riding and quiet tire. I put a set ... Read More...
BMW 3-Series Transmission Questions
Re: Transmission type in 1999 328ic [fixitrod]
hIt does not occur when braking but it is just riding at low speed as we are leaving the neighborhood. Wheel bearing, perhaps. The driveshaft fas a rubber coupling at the transmission as well as a center bearing. They should still be good on your car, but it is something else to check. I am familiar with visual and checking for play at the bushing; are there other indicators? ... Read More...
Re: Transmission type in 1999 328ic [roadburner]
Thanks for the speedy reply. Good question about the vibration. It does not occur when braking but it is just riding at low speed as we are leaving the neighborhood. Its not my daily driver so I'll check further on this. I'll inspect the bushings as well. I am familiar with visual and checking for play at the bushing; are there other indicators? I may have misspelled ... Read More...
