One thing I note is that a lot of the cars mentioned are smaller euro-sedans. And while this is fine, if you want a large car, you're looking at a Big Lexus, Acura, Cadillac, Mercedes, Volvo, Audi, or BMW. If I buy a coupe, I can go as late as 2012 on a BMW, and still get the straight six.... So.... buy one of those in 2016 and drive it for six years... that gets me to 64 yrs old... So, I'm not worried about the 4-cyl turbos.....

Don't forget, though, that this also is a huge plus for Cadillac. Repairs are inexpensive (parts are actually less now than Toyota or Honda!) and they happen fairly infrequently compared to the European makes. Add in pretty decent incentives (incentives from Acura or Lexus??), and it's compelling. $32K for a CTS (actual price via Truecar on a 2012, which isn't as low as you can negotiate yourself, even) versus $40-45K or ... I must inject here that we have had 29 Audis, 3 BMW's and 3 VW's since the late 1970's and only two "Japanese" representatives -- a 2012 Acura TL Advance SH-AWD and a 2011 Infiniti FX35 AWD. My wife and I have had so many German cars, I do feel I can offer up a data point or two, rather than "just" an anecdote. Audis and BMW's (through 2009, at least) are breathtakingly expensive to have beyond their factory warranties. To say that one manufacturer is better than another because of the current lease terms or current incentives is not right. Every manufacturer in this segment has some kind of different incentive every month to move metal. We all know how they do it. BMW subsidizes their leases with high residual values. NYC, Haven't checked KBB or other sources, but $19k for a 2010 TSX with 49,000 miles doesn't seem terrible, given that Acura is discounting the heck out of their new cars now. I just got another e-mail from Pohanka Acura indicating they would give me $9,300 of a brand new 2012 TL SH-AWD (manual or auto), which works out to around $36k. Yup, that's usually how it is... But....I don't think you need to (or should) go as far as to "settle" for your third (or worse) choice of color and options if you plan ahead and are willing to do the other three things. I read someplace that the Auto Stop/Start can be turn off completely by having the BMW dealer updating the the software. Basically the update allows the computer to "remember" the last function of this feature. Yes, I would say so. $9k is about a 33% increase in price. A 2002 Toyota Camry LE was $19500. A 2012 Camry LE is $23400. About a 20% increase. The 2003 Audi A4 Quattro was $27500 and the 2013 version is $33400, or about a 21% increase. Stick you are right about the 0.9% is for the 2012, but the leases of $399 and $499 are for the 2013. Not bad for $2400 down, unlike BMW where they want $3500 to 4K down for those prices.

Also, when you add some packages and options the price difference becomes smaller. I compared a 2012 328i sport line to a 2013 328i sport line. According to the new 2013 price list, and options list, xenon headlights can be had as a stand alone separate option for $900. No other item or package is required. We used Momentum BMW West. I was very pleased with them, and I loved my CA. During the search process I stopped by Momentum on SW Freeway just to check the color of a car on their lot. The people there were very high pressure and trying to get me to switch dealerships...it really turned me off.
