  • Re: 2007 328i Sedan: Oil Changes [idoc2]

Written by: roadburner on May 24, 2012 9:01:48 PM

Here is what Blackstone said about my most recent run of Rotella T6 in my 2004 X3: Universal averages for BMW's M54 I-6 are based on about 6,400 miles on the oil. You ran this oil 8,352 miles, and wear read at or below average across the board. That's the best indication we know of that an engine is in good mechanical shape internally. The TBN was 1.7(below 1.0 is low). ... Read More

The quart per 750 miles or more seems to have become an industry standard. Chrysler also goes by that standard. I have 2 late model BMW's (2007, 2010) and neither use any oil between 5k mile oil changes. My wife owns a 2095 Mini and it doesn't use any oil either, and it has roughly 70k miles. My 2007 328xi with 111,000 miles is now consuming about a quart of oil every 4,000 miles. When new it consumed about a quart every 8,000 miles. I have always changed my own oil every 7,500-8,000 miles using BMW filters and BMW oil purchased from the dealer. Is this degree of oil consumption common for a car of this age? What are the future implications?
