Car buyers in India will be able to get a spanking-new car for $2,500 when the Tata Nano goes on sale in India later this year. So what kind of vehicle can American car buyers purchase for $2,500?

Edmunds.com’s data department researched what used vehicles were out on the market that cost between $2,000 and $2,500. The list turned out to be long ― long-gone nameplates; vehicles from gone-extinct brands; European classics; cheap sports cars; old standbys; and haulers of all sorts.

Our research found loads of blasts from the past. Remember Daewoo? Eagle? Plymouth? And, of course, Oldsmobile. Now add Isuzu to that list.

It discovered 1980s vintages of some European classics such as Jaguar XJs, BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series models, Audi and Mercedes-Benz models. We also uncovered some cheap sports cars just for fun.

The bulk of their finds fell in the hauling category ― from small trucks and vans to big ones ―  many from the 1990s as well as old standbys.

Here’s a sampling of what used vehicles are out there for up to $2,500, listed with their model years:

Acura Integra 199-93? Plymouth Breeze 1975-97? I believe you mean the 1990-93 Integra and the 1995-97 Breeze.

What's the actual supply of these cars in the market? I don't think I've seen many of these cars on the road anymore or being advertised for sale.

I think I'd rather have the Tata.
