The Nissan GT-R Nismo lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany in 7 minutes 8.679 seconds.
It is the record for the fastest-ever time for a factory GT-R on the Nurburgring, Nissan said.
The lap time was recorded by Michael Krumm, a Nissan racing pilot and test driver.
"With this lap time, we can authoritatively say that the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo holds the volume production car lap record at the Nordschleife, which is the gold standard of high-performance achievement," said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn in a statement.
The test vehicle was a Nissan GT-R Nismo with track options. The record run took place on September 30.
Driver Krumm narrates the eight-minute YouTube video, providing a personal and honest view of what it was like behind the wheel. He points out his mistakes and talks about the hard work that went into the effort. At the end, he realizes his accomplishment, but is surprisingly low key.
Nissan said Krumm's run in the Nissan GT-R Nismo lapped the Nurburgring 10 seconds faster than the previous Nissan GT-R best — 7:18 recorded in October 2012.
Edmunds says: A gripping video that's well worth taking the time to watch.
