Audi A1 Sportback Set for 2012 Debut in Europe

INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi on Friday confirmed that the A1 Sportback will debut in early 2012, but told Inside Line it is not coming to the U.S.

The A1 Sportback, a five-door compact, will be sold in Europe for the U.S. equivalent of $22,921.

The A1 Sportback will be offered with a choice of seven engines and an optional Internet connection, said the German automaker.

Powertrain choices include four TFSI gasoline engines and three TDI diesel engines. Output on the engine lineup ranges from 86 to 185 horsepower. Audi said in a statement that some of the engines are linked to a seven-speed S tronic transmission.

The A1 Sportback comes standard with four seats. A fifth seat is a no-cost option.
