SHANGHAI, China — Shanghai Auto continues to expand its MG range, with the introduction of the MG5, a hatchback companion to the Roewe 350, later this week at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show.
The MG5, which is slated to go into production in China late this year or early next, will be slotted between the MG3 and the MG6. Code-named AP12, it shares the AP platform with the midrange Roewe.
Shanghai Auto says the MG5 will be offered initially with a 100-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with a hotter 134-hp turbo variant due later. Transmission choices will include a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic.
Prices in China are expected to range from $13,500-$19,500.
