COSTA MESA, California — The 400-horsepower Hyundai Velocity Concept, an extreme version of the Hyundai Veloster, has been revealed ahead of the 2012 SEMA Show.

The 1.6-liter four-cylinder Veloster engine gets a boost from customized engine modifications by Cosworth. They include performance pistons, rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, intake-charging design, fuel system and engine management. In comparison, the base 2013 Veloster delivers 138 hp, while the Veloster Turbo delivers 201 hp.

The Velocity concept gets 19-inch satin-charcoal racing wheels, a lower body kit, rear diffuser, oversized rear wing spoiler and a #1 racing number design motif.

The cabin gets a Katzkin custom suede leather interior, a CPR integrated roll bar and a Race-Keeper Video GPS data acquisition system.

Hyundai America's design and technical center created the factory-tuner concept. It joins the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec Track Edition at the 2012 SEMA Show.

Edmunds says: Nice play on the Hyundai Veloster name as the Korean automaker revs up to be a major presence at the 2012 SEMA Show.
