IRVINE, California — A slow striptease of the 2014 Mazda 6 has begun ahead of the car's expected debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.
The Mazda 6 will be teased in a series of five YouTube videos running through July. The second video is expected to debut on YouTube today. Mazda said in a statement that the second video will showcase the Mazda 6's headlights, hood, front fenders and A-pillar. The Japanese automaker said the Mazda 6 will go on sale in early 2013.
The first video, which runs just 22 seconds, offers a brief glimpse of the face of the Mazda 6. Accompanying text on YouTube notes: "This is not the Takeri concept car. It is the first glimpse of the all-new Mazda 6 and the similarities are definitely intentional. The Mazda 6 sedan incorporates many of the notable Kodo design cues from the Takeri."
The Takeri concept made its North American debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show. It was equipped with 2.2-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv clean diesel engine.
Mazda said in a statement on Thursday that the 2014 Mazda 6 will be the automaker's second vehicle to "fully encompass Skyactive technology." Mazda is expected to offer a clean diesel engine to U.S. buyers eventually, but it is not likely to be the one featured in the Takeri concept.
The Takeri concept made its global debut at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show.
The redesigned Mazda 6 shares its platform with the 2013 Mazda CX-5.
Edmunds.com says: By the end of July, you should have a pretty good picture of the future Mazda 6.
