GOODWOOD, England — Jaguar will unveil a development prototype of its new 2014 F-Type sports car at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will be driven up Goodwood Hill by Mike Cross, the automaker's head of vehicle integrity.

The F-Type, a two-place convertible based on the C-X16 concept, will be Jaguar's fourth model in mid-2013 when it joins the XF sport sedan, XJ luxury sedan and XK coupe and convertible.

Jaguar said it will offer the F-Type with a choice of a supercharged V6 or V8 engine. Earlier, the company had said the F-Type will feature a range of engines, including "a new power plant family," and that "all will deliver stunning sports-car performance."

The F-Type, like the C-X16 concept that was unveiled last fall at the Frankfurt auto show, is based on a cut-down version of the current XK's aluminum platform. But where the C-X16 debuted as a coupe, the F-Type, at least initially, will be an open car. Jaguar also has plans to build an F-Type coupe, as well as a performance-oriented R edition.

Edmunds.com says: Goodwood is the perfect location for the F-Type's coming-out party.
