PARIS — The 2013 Kia Carens, a compact MPV that may provide clues about the 2014 Kia Sedona, will make its world debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

The Kia Carens is built on a new platform and continues the design renaissance at the Korean automaker.

Kia shelved its Sedona minivan for the 2013 model year, but is expected to revive it in the U.S. in 2014.

Kia did not reveal its future product plans for the Carens on Wednesday, but it is believed that the new Carens replaces the current model and the larger Sedona.

"This marks a dramatic shift forward for our MPV contender and brings the model in line with Kia's distinctive current design direction," said Hyoung-Keun Lee, Kia CEO, in a statement.

Kia did not disclose pricing or specifications on the new Carens. It will be offered in five-seat and seven-seat configurations. The redesigned model features the new "tiger nose" front end and a rear spoiler. The Carens targets the Ford S-Max in Europe.

Edmunds says: If the new Kia Sedona looks as good as the new Kia Carens, it could really shake up the minivan market here.
