PARIS — The Hyundai ix20, a new B-segment MPV, will make its world premiere at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, alongside the Hyundai i10 city car. But Hyundai Motor America tells Inside Line that U.S. consumers are not likely to see the cars here.
"There are no plans to bring either vehicle to the U.S. market at this time," said Hyundai Motor America spokesman Dan Bedore in response to an e-mailed query from Inside Line on Thursday.
Hyundai said in a statement that the ix20 is conceived as a "striking departure from the boxy 'minivan' image typically associated with the segment."
Few details were available about the ix20, which was designed and developed at the Korean automaker's European research and development center in Russelsheim, Germany.
The Hyundai i10, which also makes its world premiere at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, is described as an "upgraded" version of the Korean automaker's A-segment city car. "[It] benefits from a comprehensive set of enhancements in terms of design, specification and competitiveness — including a new 1.0-liter engine," Hyundai said in a statement.
