NEW YORK — The 2014 Scion tC, taking some cues from the Scion FR-S, debuted on Thursday at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

The redesigned 2014 Scion tC goes on sale in June. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Toyota said it wanted to give the Scion tC "more assertive styling." Details include new headlights, a new hood and a new blacked-out valance beneath the rear bumper that features "an FR-S style." Other changes include new LED taillights, new 18-inch alloy wheels and two new paint colors, Absolutely Red and Blue Streak Metallic.

In the cabin, the 2014 Scion tC gets a touchscreen audio system as standard equipment. The new audio system includes Bluetooth and steering wheel-mounted controls.

The carryover 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine on the 2014 Scion tC delivers 179 horsepower and is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or an updated six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmission now features Dynamic Rev Management technology adopted from the Scion FR-S. The system quickly blips the engine to match its revs to gear ratios on downshifts, limiting driveline shock and "adding to the visceral experience of driving the car," said Toyota.

The Scion tC competes with the Hyundai Veloster, Honda CR-Z, Kia Forte Koup and Volkswagen Beetle.

Scion also announced that limited-production Scion 10 Series models, including the 2014 Scion 10 Series FR-S, will arrive in showrooms in June.

The Scion 10 Series models will be featured in Silver Ignition exterior paint. The Scion name will be illuminated on the dash before fading to reveal the number 10. Toyota said the unique models will number a total of 10,000 vehicles.

Other details include silver seatbelts, a solar-powered illuminated shift knob and an LED Scion locator badge that lights up when the car is unlocked. The xB, iQ and xD will feature unique alloy wheels in a graphite finish.

The Scion 10 Series FR-S comes with HID headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, dual automatic climate control and a smart key with push-button start.

Edmunds says: Scion has lots to celebrate this year, including a redesigned 2014 tC.
