Land Rover says the 2014 Range Rover Sport will be its "fastest, most responsive and agile vehicle to date." It is expected to get Land Rover's supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine and possibly the new 340-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that has been added to the regular Range Rover for 2014.
The downsized engine presumably would improve the fuel economy in the Range Rover Sport. The 2013 Range Rover Sport with the 5.0-liter V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission returns 13 mpg in city driving and 18 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport debuts at a time of high gas prices. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Monday pegged the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline at $3.69 versus $3.57 a month ago.
The unveiling of the 2014 Range Rover Sport in New York — and a planned drive event through the city — is appropriate, since New York is the single biggest market for the Range Rover Sport, according to the automaker.
