NEW YORK — Shelby American will display the latest edition of its Super Snake package for the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 at the upcoming 2011 New York Auto Show. The company says the base car with tuner package will be priced from "under $100,000" and available for customer order beginning May 1.
Shelby American last fall announced an 800-horsepower option for the GT500 Super Snake package. The N.Y. show marks the first outing for the 2012 version.
Shelby also plans to display the 2012 Shelby GT350 coupe and convertible, which were unveiled earlier this year at the Chicago auto show and now come in two new colors, Race Red and Kona Blue.
The 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake package, described by the company as "one of the most powerful and important Shelbys ever built," starts with an engine upgrade, including supercharger, that boosts output to more than 750 horsepower and torque to 590 pound-feet. An optional Shelby/Kenne Bell upgrade kicks output up another notch to 800 hp.
The Super Snake package also includes a Ford Racing handling pack that bundles dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars and front strut tower brace. A Shelby/Eibach handling pack is optional. Among the other features are a Borla exhaust system, Shelby/Baer performance brakes and Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels in durabright or anthracite finish.
Shelby American provides potential customers with an online configurator.
