LOS ANGELES — The Walking Dead 2014 Hyundai Tucson limited-edition model, one of the rare production vehicles designed to tackle the zombie apocalypse, will arrive in showrooms next March. It debuted at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Pricing has not been announced, said Jim Trainor, a Hyundai Motor America spokesman.
The special model celebrates the 10th anniversary of The Walking Dead graphic novels.
The "zombie apocalypse" is an imaginary kind of monster mash where dead people come back to life as zombies, similar to the 1968 movie Night of the Living Dead, which has served as a template for all things zombie.
Exterior cues on the special Tucson include an Ash Black exterior with a red accent graphics package. The Tucson Walking Dead will only be offered in all-wheel drive, "to assist drivers when off-roading away from the undead," the automaker said.
The special Tucson can be ordered with vehicle decals of the four factions featured in the series: Hilltop, Kingdom, Saviors and Survivors.
The cabin gets a black leather interior, along with a Zombie Survival Kit that includes The Walking Dead 72-hour survivalist's backpack. The navigation system has a touchscreen with The Walking Dead splash screen.
Hyundai has jumped on the zombie bandwagon with enthusiasm. The Korean automaker has come up with three Hyundai Zombie Survival Machines and The Walking Dead Chop Shop configurator app.
