LOS ANGELES — The 2014 Jaguar XFR-S, the fastest and most powerful sedan Jaguar has ever produced, squeaks by with a sticker price under $100,000. The XFR-S was unveiled at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Jaguar said just 100 XFR-S sedans will be available in the U.S. for the 2014 model year. It is the second model in the Jaguar high-performance R-S range.

The XFR-S goes on sale in early summer, starting at $99,875, including an $875 destination charge. That means the XFR-S slots in between the 2013 Jaguar XFR and the 2013 Jaguar XKR-S coupe in terms of pricing.

The 2013 Jaguar XFR starts at $84,075, including an $875 destination charge. The 2013 Jaguar XKR-S coupe starts at $132,875, including shipping.

Jaguar noted that the XFR-S has no gas-guzzler tax. While the EPA has yet to post official fuel economy numbers, Jaguar said the XFR-S gets an estimated 15 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway.

The XFR-S gets the same 550-horsepower 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine as the XKR-S. The engine is linked to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The XFR-S sprints from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 186 mph.

Jaguar says the XFR-S is distinguished from the XFR by "subtle design changes." They include a new, deeper front bumper with larger lower central and side air intakes. Exterior color choices on the XFR-S include French Racing Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Gray, Polaris White and Italian Racing Red.

The cabin gets custom touches, including the choice of contrasting color stitching and micro piping, which can be matched to the exterior paint treatment.

Edmunds says: A compelling car with a smart pricing strategy. The 2014 Jaguar XFR-S appears to present luxury buyers with a tantalizing combination.
