LOS ANGELES — The base 2013 Infiniti JX FWD, which was unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, starts at $41,400, including a $950 shipping charge. Infiniti said the luxury crossover goes on sale in the spring.

The new JX luxury crossover undercuts two of its main competitors, the 2012 Acura MDX and the 2012 Audi Q7. The MDX starts at $43,815, including an $885 shipping charge. The Q7 starts at $47,125, including an $875 destination charge.

The JX's base price can rapidly escalate thanks to five option packages. They include a $4,950 Premium package that includes a navigation system, AroundView monitor and a 13-speaker Bose sound system. A Driver Assistance package adds another $2,200 to the bottom line and adds such items as a back-up collision intervention system, intelligent cruise control, a blind-spot warning system and heated steering wheel. A $1,700 Theater package bundles dual 7-inch color monitors, two wireless headphones and a 120-volt power outlet.

A Infiniti Essence concept first seen at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
