TOKYO — The Toyota FT-86 Open concept, which is bound for the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, previews a convertible version of the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ.

Toyota said the FT-86 Open concept "previews a possible future development" of the FT-86.

"The showcar will help Toyota gauge public reaction to the idea, at the same time as it carries out engineering tests on a prototype," the automaker said on Friday.

Toyota did not release any technical specifications on the car, which is likely to be heavier and a bit slower than the coupe.

A second Toyota concept is also bound for the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. The Toyota i-Road concept will make its world premiere at the show.

"The Toyota i-Road has been conceived as a compact, fun and emissions-free personal mobility concept, designed to offer quick and efficient urban transport for two people," said Toyota.

Toyota will also take the wraps off the Toyota Auris Touring Sport in Geneva. The British-built model is intended for European audiences.

Edmunds says: The convertible FT-86 model is destined to be one of the most closely watched unveilings at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, with major implications for U.S. buyers.
