GENEVA — The Subaru Viziv concept, a diesel hybrid that hints at the Japanese brand's future crossovers, debuted on Tuesday at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show.
Complete with butterfly doors, the four-passenger showcar appears to be the logical extension of the brand beyond the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek. Subaru says the Viziv "represents a new design direction and technologies that will take the Subaru brand into the future."
The concept combines a 2.0-liter Subaru boxer diesel engine, lithium-ion batteries and a pair of electric motors. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The concept also features an independent-rear-motor-driven symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. Such a setup provides "fine-tuned control of the four wheels to match the travel environment and road surface conditions," the automaker said.
The name is inspired by the phrase "Vision for Innovation."
