GENEVA — The Qoros GQ3 sedan, the first car in the new Chinese Qoros brand lineup was unveiled ahead of its debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show
The Qoros GQ3 goes on sale in China in the second half of 2013 and in Europe later in the year. It targets the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf in the compact C-segment in Europe.
The company said the styling of the GQ3 was "based on modern European design tastes." It was designed by Gert Volker Hildebrand, Qoros executive director of design, and the former head of Mini design for 10 years.
The GQ3 features a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a coupelike silhouette. At 72 inches, the GQ3 is said to be one of the widest cars in its class. The wheels feature a triple-split eight-spoke design, which will be a signature design element for the brand.
The cabin gets a "floating" dashboard and an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen.
Pricing and powertrain specifications were not announced. The brand earlier said it will introduce hybrid and electric vehicles.
Qoros Auto Company was founded in 2007 in partnership with China's Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation, a global holding company.
The company used the reveal of the Qoros GQ3 to explain its nomenclature. All sedans will use the first letter "G," while the second letter "Q" refers to the "master brand." The third digit indicates the vehicle's segment.
Edmunds says: There are no plans at this point to bring the Qoros GQ3 to the U.S.
