GENEVA — The Volkswagen Swiss Up!, Winter Up!, X Up! and Cargo Up! concepts will spice up the Volkswagen stand at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

The concepts provide a bit of whimsy and don't appear to be destined for production. Volkswagen called them "design studies" in a statement on Thursday.

The Swiss Up! concept is patterned after a Swiss Army knife and is a nod to the country hosting the auto show. It gets Tornado Red exterior paint accented by white mirror housings, a white dashboard fascia and red bezels around the air vents. A leather band around the back of each front seat provides storage for the pocket knife.

The Winter Up! is based on the Cross Up! concept shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. It features snowboards on the roof and Pure White and Malibu Blue exterior paint.

The X Up! is also based on the Cross Up! concept and gets a roof box with built-in searchlights for "nighttime expeditions," said VW.

The Cargo Up! concept is a workhorse with plenty of cargo room in the rear because the rear seats have been removed. A Plexiglas bulkhead separates the driver from the cargo.

Edmunds.com says: Looks like VW is trying to tell us that it's planning a production version of the Cross Up!
