GENEVA — The Suzuki G70 concept, which first saw the light of day as the Suzuki Regina at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show, will be unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

The G70 previews Suzuki's next global compact car. Suzuki said in a statement on Wednesday that the G70 "demonstrates (a) new vision for a compact car incorporating minimized weight and elaborated dynamics." It gave no explanation for the name change — and released one photo of the car with the Regina nameplate along with the press release.

The G70 weighs 1,609 pounds and appears to borrow at least one styling cue from the Swift compact, at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. This vehicle was also shown at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show and could be introduced in Japan sometime this year.

Edmunds.com says: With appearances at two major auto shows, the Suzuki G70, a.k.a. Regina, appears bound for production.
