GENEVA — Peugeot will bring two concepts, the 208 GTi and the XY, both spun off of its 208 hatchback, to the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

Peugeot did not confirm that it will be launching a performance GTi version of the 208.

The GTi concept is equipped with Peugeot's RCZ THP 200 engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission. It gets a wider track than the base 208, along with a rear roof spoiler and double chromed exhaust tailpipes.

Joining the GTi on the Peugeot stand is the 208-based XY, which gets a 115-horsepower 1.6-liter e-HDi turbodiesel engine and a six-speed manual transmission. Other details include 18-inch alloy wheels and a special "Pulsion" exterior paint treatment that "appears to constantly change," said Peugeot.

The French automaker said that the XY concept is intended for city dwellers who want modern technology and high style.

Edmunds.com says: Even if the two Peugeot concepts make it to production in Europe, Americans will have to admire them from afar.
