MALVERN, England — Morgan Motor Company has confirmed with Inside Line that it will be launching three new or revised vehicles at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show — the Aero Coupe, Roadster and Plus 8.
Morgan first debuted its AeroMax Coupe back at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show and shook the auto world with its old-school design backed up by modern tech and power. It eventually saw a limited production run of just 100 copies starting in 2008, and is now being revived via Morgan's 2013 Aero Coupe that will be officially launched in Geneva.
The car is designed for long-distance touring and takes cues from the Morgan GT3 Aero racecar. It has a completely aluminum chassis and a 4.8-liter BMW V8 engine that sends power through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Morgan says maximum output stands at 390 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque with an added sports exhaust, which allows for a 4.5-second 0-62-mph time and a top speed of 170 mph.
Ash hardwood surrounds the cockpit and a combination of suede and leather makes up the Morgan's upholstery. The 2,590-pound car can be operated in a Sport or Auto mode.
Morgan is also using the Geneva show to unveil its revised Plus 8 convertible that weighs just 2,425 pounds and features the same 4.8-liter V8 as the Aero Coupe.
The last model on display will be the updated Roadster. It offers a 3.7-liter six-cylinder and provides better fuel economy than the other two models.
