GENEVA — The first official photos of Infiniti's hybrid sports-car concept, the Emerg-E, have broken cover on the Web a week ahead of the car's launch at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

Infiniti released a teaser image of the coupe in early February, describing is as an "advanced sports-car concept."

In a brief statement accompanying that pre-show teaser image, Infiniti described the Emerg-E as an "electric car," but then hinted it would be a hybrid, saying the Emerg-E will be the first Infiniti to have a "range-extender drivetrain." Further, it said the powertrain combination — presumably an electric motor with a gasoline engine — will be "mounted in a mid-ship package for optimal handling."

Official photos of the concept were leaked Monday by a number of Web sites, including Carscoop and Autocar. The images show a sleek two-seater with massive air intakes and oversize wheels and tires.
