DEARBORN, Michigan — The production version of Ford's new B-Max mini-crossover for Europe will be unveiled at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Auto Show, a year after it first appeared in concept form at the 2011 show.

The new B-Max enters production later this year in Romania.

Based on the subcompact

Ford refers to the smaller B-Max as a "city-friendly" crossover, or "multi-activity vehicle," featuring a pillarless design with sliding rear doors.

European customers will be able to spec a Duratorq turbodiesel or the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder gasoline engine.

Edmunds.com says: The B-Max would nicely round out Ford's North American product portfolio.
