GENEVA — The Chevrolet Cruze wagon will debut next month at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show, but Chevrolet told Inside Line on Thursday that there are no plans to bring the wagon variant to the U.S.

"No plans on bringing the wagon to (the) U.S. at this point," wrote Michael T. Albano, a Chevrolet spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query from Inside Line. "But we'll continue to evaluate market as needed."

Chevrolet released a single image of the Cruze wagon, which features a tapering roof line and standard roof rails. It is the third variant of the small car, joining a European lineup that includes the Cruze sedan and hatchback. Pricing was not announced on the wagon version.

The Chevrolet Cruze wagon can be ordered with a new 130-horsepower 1.7-liter diesel engine, in addition to a range of four-cylinder units displacing between 1.4 and 2.0 liters.

The Cruze wagon is 15.4 feet in overall length — 4 inches longer than the sedan. Rear storage space is close to 53 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Edmunds.com says: We know that wagons are a hard sell in the U.S., but still think a case could be made for the Cruze wagon.
