GENEVA — The Opel Zafira Tourer Concept has been teased via a hologram in advance of its world debut next week at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Opel said official images and more information about what it calls the "lounge-on-wheels" will be released on Friday.
The concept appears to take aim at the Ford S-Max MPV, but Opel has yet to clarify if this is the precursor of a production vehicle or a study in a new design direction for the brand.
"We have transferred the idea of a relaxing lounge to a vehicle and created an automobile oasis, a place to relax and enjoy," said Mark Adams, Opel's vice president of design in a statement on Tuesday. "The Zafira Tourer Concept's exterior design also makes a bold statement with its sleek, flowing lines and premium feel."
Opel will also host the world debut of the production-ready Ampera, basically a rebodied and rebadged Chevrolet Volt. The Ampera will go on sale in Europe in early 2012. Opel's sister European brand Vauxhall said the Ampera will go on sale in the U.K. for around $54,850, before a government grant that amounts to the equivalent of just over $8,000.
