FRANKFURT, Germany — The Opel Monza concept, a gullwing coupe said to preview the future of the brand's design, has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

While production plans were not disclosed, the Monza concept could preview an Audi A5 fighter.

The four-seat concept "embodies what our customers can expect from us within the next years, not only in terms of design, but also in terms of efficiency and connectivity between drivers and the Internet community," said Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, Opel CEO, in a statement.

The concept features a striking design that the company said is inspired by ocean waves lapping on the shore, as well as the physique of a greyhound dog.

The plug-in hybrid concept stands out with its LED projection technology, which lets the driver use the sculpted dashboard as one big screen. Opel has not yet provided a look at the unconventional dashboard.

"Information and decorative elements are displayed on the surface, which the driver can customize according to his needs, taste or mood," said Opel.

The company noted that a similar setup was used to project graphics onto Buckingham Palace during the queen's Golden Jubilee last year.

The LED projection technology features 18 LED projectors and is operated via voice control and steering-wheel controls.

The Monza concept can be powered by a variety of sources, but the one in Frankfurt will feature electric drive with a compressed natural-gas range extender and a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, the company said. Opel describes this as "a further development of the (Opel) Ampera's pioneering technology." The Ampera is the sibling of the Chevrolet Volt.

The original Monza debuted at the 1977 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Edmunds says: The futuristic dashboard alone in the Opel Monza concept will command lots of attention in Frankfurt.

EEEK!!! That's not a coupe. They lied! Its just a 5 door with show-car doors. So this is vaguely how the headlights, grille, taillights, etc will look in the near future at Opel. Fine. Cool. Great.
