FRANKFURT, Germany — The Seat IBL Concept, which targets the BMW 3 Series and previews the next generation of Seats, made its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Seat says the IBL Concept does not preview "a specific model," but shows its future design philosophy when it comes to sporty sedans. Volkswagen's Spanish brand said it was going for a minimalist look with the IBL Concept.

Little information was offered about technical details, with Seat only saying the IBL has a "plug-in hybrid drive." Three driving modes can be selected, including Travel, Sport or Efficiency.

The IBL Concept is slightly longer than a BMW 3 Series and has the familiar Seat "arrow" nose. Other exterior cues include LED headlights and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin is accented with light matte leather with a one-piece curved glass surface covering the instrument panel.

Edmunds.com says: Seat reveals its big ambitions as it puts BMW in the crosshairs.
