PARIS — French automaker Renault has applied a midcycle update to its Twingo compact, in advance of a full redesign in 2013. The company released a single image of the car's new face ahead of its debut in September at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
The Twingo is built in Slovenia and sold across Europe. According to Automotive News, it is slated to be replaced in two years by a new rear-wheel-drive compact that will share its platform with a new four-passenger Smart from Daimler.
This fall's Twingo face-lift is the work of Laurens van den Acker, who took over last year as Renault's design chief, and features elements of the brand's evolving styling direction.
Edmunds.com says: The first all-new model from van den Acker isn't expected to reach the public until next year.
