FRANKFURT, Germany — German tuners Hamann and AC Schnitzer chose the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show on Monday as the backdrop for unveiling their unique upgrade packages for the 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible.
Hamann starts its tuning program by increasing output, thanks to the addition of a sport exhaust system and a bunch of goodies that have yet to be identified. The drop top's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 usually lays down 400 horsepower, and this package will bump that up to 503 horses. The only other performance mod is a spring kit that brings the Bimmer 1.2 inches closer to the ground.
The exterior gets some special treatment as well, with its new front lip, rear bumper, rear spoiler and daytime running lights. A range of 21-inch rollers is available to round out the vehicle's new appearance, and the tuner has a variety of accessories that can be added to the interior.
As for the AC Schnitzer package, the tuner nudges output even higher than Hamann, to 532 hp, by installing an exhaust system and remapping the computer. The package also includes a set of eight-piston high-performance calipers in the front to upgrade braking power and a spring set that lowers the chassis by just under an inch.
AC Schnitzer alters the exterior with a body kit consisting of a front spoiler, chrome grille, chrome stripping and a rear lip, and it also offers new 19- to 21-inch wheel sets that you can check out on its online configurator.
The package is completed with a sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, floor mats and a special aluminum cover for the iDrive controller that dress up the interior.
Edmunds.com says: You would think the Hamann treatment would pack more of a punch by looking at the exterior, but it's the AC Schnitzer treatment that gives the 6 Series a bigger kick under the hood.
