INGOLSTADT, Germany — The first official photos of the Audi A2 Concept have been released ahead of the car's debut next week at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Teased in sketches last week, the four-passenger A2 Concept is a forerunner of the next-generation A2 hatchback that's due in 2014-'15.

The A2 Concept will be powered by an 85kW electric motor driving the front wheels through a single-speed gearbox.

The concept measures just under 150 inches long — roughly the same length as the original A2, which went out of production in 2005. But that also makes it larger than Audi's other compact Frankfurt showcars, the Urban Concept and Urban Concept Spyder.

Edmunds.com says: Nothing radical or unique, as small electric concept vehicles go — except this one appears to be headed for production.
