TURIN, Italy — Fiat's performance arm is hosting the world debuts of the Abarth 500 Cabrio Italia, Abarth Punto Super Sport and Abarth 695 Competizione.
In keeping with the sporting character of the marque, Abarth has enhanced the performance and handling of each model, while wrapping each in distinctive livery.
The Abarth 695 Competizione is essentially a street-legal, two-place performance edition of the Fiat 500, said to be inspired by the Abarth 500 Assetto Corsa. The 695 Competizione features a matte gray paint scheme called Grigio Competizione Opaco.
The two-seater is equipped with a 177-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an Abarth Competizione five-speed gearbox with paddle shifters. It also gets red Brembo brake calipers, specially tuned suspension and exhaust, 17-inch rims borrowed from the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, a rollbar, Jaeger instruments, Sabelt leather seats, racing-style pedals and a black leather steering wheel.
A second Cinquecento-based model, the Abarth 500 Cabrio Italia, is painted Blu Abu Dhabi with a black power-operated canvas top and tinted rear windows.
The 500 Cabrio Italia is fitted with a milder version of the 1.4 Turbo T-Jet engine, tuned to deliver 158 hp and 170 pound-feet of torque. Abarth says the car, equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, accelerates from zero to 60 in less than 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 131 mph. Fuel economy averages 36 mpg.
Additional features include Abarth's esseesse brake system with yellow Brembo calipers, 17-inch 10-spoke alloy rims, xenon headlamps, Sabelt leather seats, aluminum-finish pedals and gearshift knob, carbon-fiber running boards, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a Magneti Marelli sat-nav unit.
The Abarth Punto Super Sport features a two-tone gray paint scheme, with matte-black hood, roof and mirror covers.
The car rides on 18-inch tires and Abarth esseesse alloy rims, with red brake calipers, and is equipped with Koni shocks and lowered springs.
The Punto Super Sport gets a 1.4 Multiair engine rated at 177 hp and 199 lb-ft, enough to trim 0-60 acceleration to less than 7.5 seconds and ensure a top speed of 134 mph.
The cabin features Sabelt leather seats, stainless-steel pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel with red and yellow stitching, plus Jaeger gauges.
