MUNICH, Germany — The wraps have come off the Mini John Cooper Works Concept ahead of a world debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

The concept is spun off the redesigned 2014 Mini Cooper, which was featured at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Details of the concept include a new Bright Highways Grey exterior paint, red accents and a sports exhaust system. The twin tailpipes carry the John Cooper Works logo.

A John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit with side skirts, a rear apron with flaps, a diffuser and a roof spoiler rounds out the package. It also features a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

"The Mini John Cooper Works Concept offers a look ahead to the next generation of the elite sports model," said BMW in a statement on Tuesday.

Edmunds says: This concept previews a high-performance version of the 2014 Mini Cooper that should arrive in showrooms sometime next year.
