DEARBORN, Michigan — The Lincoln MKC concept, a new compact crossover that ultimately may be part of the Lincoln brand's makeover, is set for the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, according to Reuters.

Lincoln is also considering — but has not approved for production — several products in addition to the four core models, the report said.

The Lincoln MKC, which probably would not debut until calendar year 2016 or later, is said to share its underpinnings with the Ford Escape.

Ford on Monday said that Lincoln is undergoing a major overhaul, including the debut of its first Super Bowl commercial.

The automaker is leaning heavily on 40-year-old Max Wolff, Lincoln's new chief designer, to remake the brand's image. Wolff came to Lincoln from Cadillac in 2011.

The average Lincoln buyer is 65 years old. Ford wants to lower that to 57.

Edmunds says: Lincoln's ambitious plans include a compact crossover intended to lure in younger buyers, according to a new report.
