HERNDON, Virginia — The 2014 Audi R8 and 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet are bound for the 2013 Detroit Auto Show and U.S. showrooms in the spring, Audi of America said on Thursday.

Pricing was not announced, but Audi noted that the 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet would not be subject to the gas-guzzler tax.

The 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet returns 16 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highway, according to Audi. The EPA has not posted official fuel economy numbers on the RS 5 Cabriolet.

Audi had told Edmunds in September that the convertible would be sold in the U.S., but had not spelled out a timetable.

Pricing has not been announced for the 2014 RS 5 Cabriolet, but it is expected to be at least $10,000 more than the coupe version of the car. The 2013 Audi RS 5 Coupe starts at $69,795, including an $895 destination charge.

The RS 5 Cabriolet is on sale now in Germany for the U.S. equivalent of $111,756. The RS 5 Cabriolet's chief competitor is the 2013 BMW M6 Convertible, which starts at $116,845, including an $895 destination charge and a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax.

The drivetrain of the RS 5 Cabriolet is identical to that of the 2013 Audi RS 5 coupe. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine rated at 450 horsepower. The car's top speed is limited to 174 mph.

Audi said the 2014 Audi R8 benefits from a new seven-speed S tronic transmission, as well as "several aesthetic adjustments," including new standard LED headlights on all models, new side mirrors and large, round tailpipe trims.

Edmunds says: We're inching closer to the launch of the 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet in the U.S.
