DETROIT — If the Kia KV7 follows in the footsteps of its California-bred predecessors, this boxy crossover concept eventually could find its way into production, much like the Kia Soul and Forte Koup before it.

Created at Kia's Southern California design studio, the KV7 is intended to "transport a large group of people and their belongings," according to Kia, while enabling them to connect all of their mobile devices or plug into an onboard interactive tabletop computer.

Kia designers wanted to promote more social interaction among occupants of the KV7, so they fitted lounge-like seating with four rotating seats that enable passengers to face each other — creating what the automaker describes as "a highly functional, inviting social space ideal for a gathering of friends."
