CHICAGO — The Kia Track'ster is set for a debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show, but the Korean automaker says there are no plans for production.

The Track'ster is described as the "ultimate" performance edition of the Soul.

Kia said the Track'ster is envisioned with a 247-horsepower gasoline engine, although no other powertrain details were released. Presumably, the Track'ster is turbocharged, given the sizable boost in horsepower over the mainstream Kia Soul with a 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 164 horsepower.

The Track'ster is significant because it showcases Kia's shifting design language. The Track'ster is a three-door hatch with a low profile and what looks like an aggressive body kit.

Kia noted in its press release of the Track'ster that the earlier Kia Soul'ster convertible concept is "currently under final assessment for production." The Soul'ster debuted at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Edmunds.com says: The Kia Track'ster looks to be one of the showstoppers at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.
