PARIS — French automaker Renault plans to unveil a new large sedan called Talisman for the Chinese market at the upcoming 2012 Beijing Auto Show. A teaser image was released on Renault's Facebook page.

The Talisman is expected to be based on the Renault Samsung SM7 sedan that was introduced last year in Korea. The Talisman is likely to be assembled in Korea, then shipped to China.

The SM7 was developed from the Renault Samsung SM5, using platforms and powertrains shared within the Renault-Nissan global alliance. Engine choices include 2.5- and 3.5-liter V6s, each equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Renault previously used the Talisman name on a Patrick le Quement-designed gullwing concept that was unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The Beijing auto show opens April 23.

Edmunds.com says: Look for Renault to begin assembling some future models in China through its Dongfeng-Nissan partnership.
